Conference Overview

With the Middle East spearheading some of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in the world, including the USD 1 trillion plus Neom city project, the 2nd Annual International Geotechnical Innovation Conference (IGIC 2025), strives to foster Saudi Arabia’s and the Middle East region’s ambitious growth plans, where tall buildings and skyscrapers form the core of its vision.                 Dr. Marwan Alzaylaie

                Senior Manager – Geotechnical Engineering Dubai Development Authority U.A.E.

                Dr. Marwan Alzaylaie has been working at Dubai Development Authority (DDA), as Senior Manager-Geotechnical Engineering since 2006, His responsibilities include the review of geotechnical works design such as geotechnical investigation reports, shoring design, piling/deep foundation design, soil stability for open excavation, groundwater control and ground improvement design, moreover, he is supervising and monitoring the geotechnical works & constructions sites within DDA jurisdictions. Also, he worked for Sharjah Municipality during the period from 2002 to 2006 as a Civil Engineer, where his main duties included monitoring, controlling and inspecting the construction projects at different phases for buildings.

                Since 2015 Dr. Alzaylaie started teaching as part-time lecturer at Heriot-Watt University Dubai, he is involved in teaching the geotechnical engineering courses and supervising the post and undergraduate students’ research. In 2021 he started teaching in Abu Dhabi University College of Engineering, Civil Engineering Department as Adjunct Faculty

                Dr. Alzaylaie obtained his PhD in civil/geotechnical engineering from Technische Universität Darmstadt in Germany (TU Darmstadt) His PhD thesis was titled “Stiffness and Strength of Dubai Sedimentary Rock”. In 2002 he graduated with B.Sc. in civil engineering from University of Sharjah (UoS), also he obtained his M.Sc. in civil engineering in 2008 from UoS. His master research was titled “Modification of the Swelling and Phosphorus Retention Characteristics of Bentonite Clay Using Alum”.

                Dr. Alzaylaie has been publishing several papers in addition to serving as member of organizing committees for numerous international conferences. Furthermore, he is a former member for ISSMGE Technical Committee TC 217- Land Reclamation and he is founder member and secretary/treasurer of Deep Foundation Institute Middle East (DFI Middle East) and also a founder member of Geotechnical & Material Engineering Committee in Society of Engineers-UAE.

                Prof. Saad Aiban

                Founder and General Manager – Maeen Engineering Consultancy; Professor CEE – KFUPM University; SWCC Approved Soil Expert

                Aiban is a founder and the General Manager of the Technical Affairs, Maeen Engineering Consultancy. Professor Aiban was formerly a professor at the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, KFUPM, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia and participated in many national and international committees and conferences. He authored and coauthored many papers that have been published in prestigious refereed journal and conferences. He has vast experience in developing innovative solutions for Civil Engineering complex problems and repair works with focus on the Geotechnical Engineering. Dr. Aiban received several appreciation awards in research, teaching and community services. He is providing consultancy to many local and international organizations in Geotechnical Engineering, Assessment and Repair of Infrastructures and Educational Matters.                 Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Alnuaim

                Senior Geotechnical Consultant, Saudi Mining Services Company (ESNAD) 

                Dr. Ahmed Alnuaim is a consultant for the Saudi Mining Service Company (ESNAD) which is part of the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources (Saudi Arabia) ecosystem; and is an Associate Professor at King Saud University. He previously worked as an advisor for the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC), Riyadh Metro, and Riyadh municipality. He has over 18 years of experience in academia, engineering design and projects. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from King Saud University, a Master’s and a Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of Western Ontario in Canada. He has published more than 50 papers in scientific journals and international conferences. 

                Mr. Hamzah M. B. Al-Hashemi

                Mr. Hamzah M. B. Al-Hashemi holds an M.Sc. degree, is a Ph.D. candidate, and is a LEED Green Associate specializing in Geotechnical Design & Remote Sensing. Currently serving as the Regional Manager (GCC & MENA) at Geofem Ltd. in Cyprus, he also holds the positions of CEO & Technical Director at GeoStruXer in Bahrain and is the Founder of the Gulf Geotechnical Engineers – GGE Platform. His educational background includes a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the University of Khartoum (2012) in Sudan and an M.Sc. in Geotechnical Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (2018) in Saudi Arabia, where he is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Geotechnical engineering. With over 11 years of professional experience in geotechnical design and field engineering spanning GCC, MENA, and Europe, Mr. Al-Hashemi has been involved in key projects such as the world’s largest Micropiled Post-Tensioned Rafts in Bahrain (2022), US Navy shoring projects in Bahrain, SA ARAMCO CSD Oil/Gas & Riyadh Metro G.I in Saudi Arabia, and the HS2 project in the UK, among others. His technical expertise includes Soil-Structure Interaction, remote sensing, climate change, geohazards, FEA (2D/3D, Plaxis), DEM, MPM, foundation and ground improvement techniques, CPRF & micropiled rafts, deep excavation shoring, monitoring, programming (Python, VBA), BIM, AI and digital twinning. Beyond his technical skills, Mr. Al-Hashemi is a part-time/visiting lecturer, researcher, peer reviewer, poet, and author. His professional focus is dedicated to driving innovation and excellence in geotechnical engineering, contributing significantly to complex projects in the field.

                Dr. Saeed Alzahrani

                Assistant Professor – Civil and Construction Engineering Department School of Engineering, Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University, Saudi Arabia

                Dr. Saeed Alzahrani is an assistant professor in geotechnical engineering at Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University, Saudi Arabia. Throughout his academic journey, Dr. Alzahrani has spearheaded numerous laboratory research projects focused on investigating the interface shear strength of diverse materials. His primary expertise lies in deep foundation engineering, with a specific emphasis on understanding the pile setup phenomenon and the behavior of driven piles. Currently, Dr. Alzahrani is actively involved in several ongoing research projects. His work encompasses a wide spectrum, including studies on soil improvement techniques, the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in geotechnical engineering, and slope stability. He is a member of esteemed international and local civil and geotechnical organizations such as ASCE, Geo-Institute, ISSMGE, and DFI. Dr. Alzahrani is also a registered professional engineer with credentials from the Saudi Society of Engineers. Beyond his research pursuits, Dr. Alzahrani demonstrates a robust ability to foster connections with industry and government agencies at various levels.
